Dr Martina Deny was educated at Bayerische Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio (USA) and at the Universität zu Köln. She studied German, English and American Literature and graduated with both an M.A. and the state examination for teaching at secondary schools (“Staatsexamen”). She completed her PhD in English Literature in 2008. Her PhD thesis was on “Lost in the postmodern metropolis – Studien zu (Des-)Orientierung und Identitätskonstruktion im zeitgenössischen Londonroman”, which mainly focused on orientation and identity construction in a contemporary urban context.
