Centre for Catalan Studies

The dark side of Catalan culture: Far-right ideologies in the work of 20th century Catalan artists and writers

International conference
4-5 July 2008

The Centre for Catalan Studies at Queen Mary, University of London, is organising the above Conference, to be held on 4-5 July 2008, with a view to assessing the impact of far-right ideologies on the work of 20th century Catalan artists and writers. Colleagues are invited to submit proposals for papers of 20-30 minutes, in English or in Catalan, on Eugeni d’Ors, Salvador Dalí, Josep Pla, Llorenç Villalonga and other canonical and non-canonical artists and writers whose political sympathies, which often led them to collaborate with Franco’s dictatorship, were at odds with their role in a culture that Francoism set out to exterminate.

Call for papers:
Proposals for papers (approx. 200 words) should be sent by e-mail to Jordi Larios (j.larios@qmul.ac.uk) before 1 April 2008.
A selection of papers will be published either as an edited volume or as a monographic issue of a refereed journal.

Organiser: Jordi Larios (Queen Mary College, University of London)
