October 2007
Emeritus Professor Nigel Glendinning has been awarded the prestigious Premio Internacional Elio Antonio de Nebrija for 2007. The prize is awarded annually by the University of Salamanca to a non-Spanish hispanist, on the basis of nominations put forward by Faculties of Spanish universities. Professor Glendinning received the award at the inauguration ceremony for the International Summer Courses in Salamanca on 2 July. The prize has been given to a British hispanist on only four occasions: a previous recipient is Professor Alan Deyermond, also a member of the Queen Mary Department.
Professor Glendinning was also recently awarded the Homenaje and Premio of the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado and an Honorary Doctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid.
