Landless Rural Workers of Brazil

The MST (Movement of the Landless Rural Workers of Brazil), was formalized in 1984 as the social tragedy of landlessness, affecting over four million Brazilian families, deepened. Else Vieira's first-hand organization of archives and anthologies gives voice and visibility to the militant culture emerging from this major social movement that addresses the social, economic and political consequences of inequities in land ownership. Studies and a glossary provide the academic research tools. Photographs by Sebastião Salgado provide an artistic expression of solidarity with the plight of the landless people.
