This is to announce the foundation of the London branch of the Association for the German Language Gesellschaft für deutsche Sprache (GfdS), Germany´s most important government-sponsored language society.
The opening ceremony is hosted by the Centre for Anglo-German Cultural Relations (CAGCR) and takes place on Friday 12 March 2010 from 5 pm in the Medical Lecture Theatre, Francis Bancroft Building, at Queen Mary, University of London.

After welcoming remarks from Prof Simon Gaskell, Principal of Queen Mary, University of London, and after a few words of welcome by the designated chairman of the newly founded London branch, Dr Falco Pfalzgraf, the President of the GfdS, Prof Rudolf Hoberg (Darmstadt University of Technology) will give a lecture entitled “Sprache und Öffentlichkeit. Wie denken die Deutschen über ihre Muttersprache, über Fremdsprachen und die Sprachensituation in Europa?” (a summary in English will be provided).
The evening will conclude with a wine reception.
