Eduardo Luis Araújo de Oliveira Batista

He was supervised by Professor Else R. P. Vieira, at the time working at the Federal University of Minas Gerais,  in his MA dissertation on the dialogue between Brazilian Modernism and Elizabeth Bishop, the American poet who was a resident of Brazil for 20 years and who spent many years in the historic town of Ouro Preto. He is now finalizing his PhD thesis on the interface between travel writing and translation, for the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). Under the auspices of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, he joined Queen Mary in 2009 as research assistant to Professor Vieira as part of the project “Brazil and its Translators”. Their joint contribution on Sir Richard Burton, the first translator of Brazilian Literature into English,   is coming out in the special issue of the Revita Ipotesi which disseminates the project.
