Consuelo Sanmateu has been teaching in Queen Mary since 1992. She has degrees in both Filología Hispánica and Filología Anglogermánica from the Universitat de València and as an Erasmus Student she did a Masters in Medieval Studies in Queen Mary and Westfield. Her teaching responsibilities include oral classes with second- and final-year students, Spanish II Intensive, and she is joint course organizer of the level 3 module Advanced Oral Competence.

She is a founding member of the Spanish and Latin American Film Seminar and a member of the organizing committee of the Colloquium of the Medieval Spanish Research Seminar. Her research focus is on cinematic treatments of medieval subjects, in particular the romances of chivalry and the legend of Robin Hood, and she is currently preparing a PhD on representations of the Middle Ages in Hollywood cinema.
