SLLF WRITING CENTRE

Room: Arts One 111
Co-ordinator: Dr Kirsteen Anderson

Any student is welcome to come and discuss their writing with me at any time. Please email me to arrange a meeting: k.h.r.anderson@qmul.ac.uk

Times
Two weekly sessions will run throughout semesters 1 and 2 beginning 4 October:

First-year workshop Tuesday 10-11 in Arts One 111

Second/ final-year workshop: Tuesday 11-12 in Arts One 111 (this hour will change after Reading Week to Tuesday 12-1)

How the sessions work
First-year workshop: you can refer yourself to this workshop (email me ahead to tell me you’re interested) or a teacher may recommend that you come along and I will invite you on their recommendation.

The sessions are themed and work best if you commit yourself to attending a series (see Plasma screens for details).

It is essential that you bring a piece of your academic work to each session and arrive punctually.

Second/final-year workshop: come along to any session to discuss any aspect of your written work. No need to email me in advance.

It is essential that you bring a piece of your academic work to each session and arrive punctually.

SLLF WRITING SUPPORT CENTRE

The School of Languages, Linguistics and Film recognises how closely writing is linked to thinking; and how important writing skills are both in the academic and professional worlds. A large part of your assessment, for example, while you are at university is based on your academic writing. We wish to support all our students, therefore, in developing their writing skills throughout their university career.

The SLLF runs a Writing Support Centre which offers weekly workshops to any student who would like to develop their academic writing further. You are welcome to come along to these at any point in the year.  They are informal, non-judgmental and friendly – we are all learners at whichever stage we find ourselves!

These sessions cater separately for first-year students who are at the beginning of their academic writing careers; and for second- and final-year students who are developing their writing skills further.

You can also come and discuss your work individually with me at any time.

For workshop times, please see the LCD screen outside Arts 1.08 as well as details on staff doors.

The Writing Support Centre is located in Arts 1.11, and co-ordinated by Dr Kirsteen Anderson. See my door (Arts 1.11)  for good times to drop in.

If you would like to make an appointment to see me, you are welcome to email me on: k.h.r.anderson@qmul.ac.uk

I look forward to getting to know you and your writing.

Kirsteen Anderson
