The School of
Languages Linguistics and Film is a collaboration of 6 departments and
one programme in
Comparative Literature:
The Film Studies
department
offers in depth film
history and theory, as well as the opportunity to learn production
skills and screenplay writing.
Our
French,
German,
Hispanic
Studies and Russian
departments all run Year Abroad
programmes and
provide challenging courses in languages
and culture
that can be taken in combination with other subjects. The school's Linguistics
department has
a broad range of applied and practical courses in the scientific
study of language and has been ranked top in the last
two Research Assessment Exercises. The
programme in Comparative Literature
(with European Studies) provides a range of intellectually stimulating
courses with intercultural thrusts.
We offer a unique and highly productive academic set up with a friendly and efficient student support environment and excellent teaching practices which are informed by our high levels of research, with all departments having demonstrated world leading and internationally excellent profiles in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.
